

Wirura Nyinatjaku provides comprehensive, culturally grounded mental health and wellbeing support for Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) First Nations People and other disadvantaged or marginalised community members. Our holistic, person‑centred approach supports mental, physical, social, and emotional wellbeing while helping participants strengthen daily living skills, build independence, and reconnect with family, community, and cultural identity. Our team is highly skilled in working with individuals who present with complex psychosocial needs, co‑morbid mental health conditions, AOD challenges, and behaviours of concern, and remains committed, compassionate, and steadfast in delivering safe and culturally appropriate care. At the heart of Wirura Nyinatjaku is culture we honour traditional practices, work closely with Elders, and support participants to regain a strong sense of belonging and identity. Through cultural activities, storytelling, connection to Country, and traditional healing pathways, we empower participants to strengthen their cultural roots, enhance resilience, and thrive within their community.

Wirura Nyinatjaku provides culturally appropriate, safe, and fully supervised Supported Independent Living (SIL) accommodation for participants who require consistent daily support. Our SIL homes offer 24/7 assistance, helping individuals maintain their routines, stabilise mental health, and receive ongoing behavioural and emotional support. These services are specifically tailored for people with complex psychosocial needs and alcohol and other drug (AOD) backgrounds, ensuring each participant has a structured and therapeutic home environment that promotes long‑term stability and independence.
Within our SIL accommodation, participants receive comprehensive assistance with essential household tasks. This includes support with cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, kitchen hygiene, and maintaining a clean, functional living space. Staff work alongside participants to build confidence and independence in managing domestic routines, encouraging them to learn and take responsibility for their home environment wherever possible.
Participants are supported with a wide range of daily tasks, tailored to their individual capacity and goals. This may include help with cooking, cleaning, establishing daily routines, participating in shared household responsibilities, and learning practical skills required for independent living. Our approach is flexible and responsive, ensuring support aligns with the participant’s preferences and promotes increased autonomy over time.
Wirura Nyinatjaku provides respectful, culturally sensitive support with activities such as dressing, grooming, hygiene, medication prompts, mobility assistance, and morning and evening routines. This assistance is delivered with dignity and in a manner that prioritises the participant’s comfort, safety, and cultural needs.
Our team offers tailored life‑skills development programs to help participants build practical and social capabilities. These include personal hygiene routines, budgeting and money management, cooking and healthy eating, communication and problem‑solving skills, and strategies for emotional regulation and resilience. These supports enable participants to develop confidence and independence both within their home and in the wider community.
Participants are supported to travel safely to medical appointments, cultural events, community activities, shopping, and vocational or educational commitments. Transport assistance ensures individuals can stay connected to family, culture, community, and essential services, promoting social inclusion and independence.
Central to our SIL model is Wirura Nyinatjaku’s comprehensive mental health support framework. This includes crisis support, emotional regulation, AOD‑related mental health assistance, behavioural management and safety planning, psychosocial recovery work, and strong cultural reconnection. By integrating clinical understanding with cultural knowledge, we create supportive, healing pathways that strengthen identity, wellbeing, and long‑term recovery.
Wirura Nyinatjaku supports participants to engage meaningfully and confidently within their community by facilitating access to cultural, social, and recreational activities. This includes reconnecting with family, kin, and community groups, as well as supporting participants to navigate public spaces with confidence and ease. We also assist individuals to attend cultural ceremonies and traditional practices that strengthen identity, belonging, and emotional wellbeing. Through these community‑based supports, participants build social skills, reduce isolation, and deepen their cultural connections, fostering a strong sense of community belonging and personal empowerment.
Wirura Nyinatjaku provides culturally informed group and centre‑based programs designed to strengthen social connection, cultural identity, and day‑to‑day living skills. These activities support participants to build confidence, engage with peers, and participate in meaningful cultural experiences. Day options may include arts and crafts, storytelling, cultural workshops, group outings, wellbeing programs, and recreational or therapeutic activities, all delivered within a safe, supportive, and culturally respectful environment. These programs promote personal growth, cultural engagement, emotional wellbeing, and community belonging while offering structured opportunities for participants to learn, share, and thrive alongside others.
Our Support Coordination service empowers participants to understand and implement their NDIS plans with confidence. Support Coordinators assist individuals to connect with culturally appropriate services, strengthen their capacity to independently manage supports, and navigate complex or challenging life circumstances. This includes providing guidance during crises, coordinating multidisciplinary supports, and advocating for the participant’s rights, needs, and goals. Through this service, participants are supported to access the full range of entitlements within their NDIS funding, ensuring they receive timely, appropriate, and effective support that enhances their well-being and quality of life.
